“Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the handmaidens of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!” ~ 2 Samuel 6:20 ………
Make no mistake about it, David unashamedly worshiped and praised God! So much to the point his wife Michal reprimanded him for it. He praised God so much it actually embarrassed her. She derided him for uncovering himself. What he actually did was to take off his kingly garments when he was worshiping before the King of kings!
Michal his wife felt like David was being undignified. And thank God he was! He had laid down his dignity and picked up the dignity of God. The word dignity actually means, “to be self-possessed”. Who wants to be self-possessed when you can be God possessed!
The lesson here in 2 Samuel 6 is that if we’re going to worship God as He deserves to be worshiped we must be willing to lay self aside and unashamedly praise Him. Laying self aside is the only true way to worship God in spirit and truth as He deserves to be worshiped. So why not lay your dignity aside and pick up the dignity of God and see how liberating it really is?
