This verse uses one of God’s many compound names found in the Old Testament. These compound names reveal His character and His provision. The compound name used in this verse is Jehovah Rapha. The name Jehovah Rapha means “the LORD who heals you.” God has revealed Himself as our healer!
The sad thing is that many New Testament Christians haven’t recognized God as their healer. They look only to modern medicine and doctors. Now there is nothing wrong with going to the doctor or using medicine. After all, the beloved Luke in the Bible was a physician. God even instructed Hezekiah to use a poultice to aid his healing. But even though Hezekiah used a poultice it was God that ultimately supplied his healing.
Use doctors and medicine when you need to, but stop looking to doctors and medicine as your healer and look to Jehovah Rapha first as your healer. When you look to the Lord as your healer you may find that you need doctors and medicine less and less.
