The Highest Calling

The Highest Calling

“I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.”        ~  Ephesians 4:1 KJV………

The Apostle Paul implores us in this verse to walk worthy of the vocation or calling with which we are called.  He’s talking about our calling as a child of God.  The word worthy here means, “sufficient weight”.  We’re to give sufficient weight to our calling as a child of God.  When we were born again we became children of God.  Now we must realize just how great of a calling that is.

There is no calling on the face of the earth that requires more excellence than the call of a child of God.  Everything we do we should try to do it with excellence.  We’re not to be like everyone else.  I’m not saying that we’re better,  just that we have a very high calling upon our lives.

Christians should never do anything just mediocre.  The word mediocre in Latin means, “halfway up the mountain”.  We’re to never go just halfway, but all the way.  When God created all of creation He saw everything He had made and it was very good.  Not just okay or mediocre, but very good.

Challenge yourself from now on that whatever you do you’re going to imitate your Heavenly Father and do it with excellence.  When unbelievers see the work that a child of God has done they should see excellence all over it.  We’re told to let our light so shine before men, that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father which is in Heaven!
