“And you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.” Ephesians 2:1 KJV……..
I like the use of the word quickened here and also in other New Testament passages. The word quickened means to make alive. The reason I like the use of the word quickened is because of the word picture it paints. Have you ever cut your nails down into the quick? When you do it’s painful because you’ve reached something that is alive. You’ve reached the part of the nail that’s alive.
That’s what happened to us when we were born-again. Our spirits were made alive unto God. We now have spiritual contact with the living God. Before we were dead to God. We had no spiritual feeling for Him. All that changed the moment we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior! At that moment we were made alive to God!
Here’s the thing. Every living thing needs nourishment. Now that we’ve been made alive we must feed our alive spirits with the Word of God. If we don’t feed our living spirits the Word we’ll grow weak spiritually. Just like you regularly feed your body, you need to regularly feed your spirit to maintain optimum spiritual health!
